now let’s start with basic initial configurations we used to do with Exchange Server 2010, I will be talking about

  1. CAS configurations ( OWA, OAB, ECP and Active Sync )
  2. MBX configurations ( Create a Database )
  3. HT Configurations ( Connectors, Accepted Domain, Email address policy )

As I mentioned in my last post , Exchange Management Console is no more , gone, finish … now we use either the Exchange Administration Console or what we used to call “Exchange Control panel” (Silverlight based website) or using the PowerShell.

if you don’t use PowerShell already I will recommend you start using it a lot now.

So now let’s get the ECP URL using the PowerShell (or use https://fqdn_of_exchange/ecp )

  • run Exchange Management Shell
  • use the following Command line to get the URL of your ECP if you don’t have it already

# Get-ECPvirtualDirectory | ft *url*

  • copy the link of your ECP to your Internet Explorer , if you don’t have Silverlight installed already please download it and install it from Here.

After Login you will land on the ECP page looking something like this

CAS configurations ( OWA, OAB, ECP and Active Sync )

  • on the ECP land page, on the left menu go to “Servers”

  • here you can see all your Services Virtual Directories like OWA, OAB, ECP….etc.
  • Let’s start with the first one on the list the Exchange Server Control Panel “ECP”, double click on it
  • Type the “External URL” will be used to access the ECP page for example in my case it’s https://mail.lyncdude.com/ecp
  • or use #>Get-EcpVirtualDirectory | Set-EcpVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl https://mail.lyncdude.com/ecp
  • then on left side click on “Authentication” and by default “Form Based Authentication” is enabled
  • Just Click “Save”
  • now to EWS, double click on it

  • Provide the External URL. “https://mail.lyncdude.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx

  • Then go to “Authentication” on left menu

  • Windows Authentication is enabled by default.
  • click Save
  • Now to “Microsoft Active Sync”, double click on it

  • Provide the External URL you will be using to publish your Active sync.
  • Now go to “Authentication” on left side menu

  • Make sure Basic Authentication is enabled.
  • >Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory | Set-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -BasicAuthEnabled:$true
  • Click Save.
  • Now the Offline Address Book OAB, double click on it

  • Provide the External URL you will be using to publish the OAB.
  • Click Save
  • Now OWA, double click on it image
  • Provide the External URL of the OWA
  • >Get-OwaVirtualDirectory | Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl “URL”
  • Now to “Authentication menu 8
  • enable “Form Based Authentication” and let’s use “username only” to make it easier for the users.
  • The rest “Features and file Access” use the default settings.
  • Hit “Save”
  • Last thing is “PowerShell” double click on it

  • Provide the External URL
  • Now go to Authentication menu

  • both Integrated and Basic authentication should be enabled by Default.
  • Click Save

You can use the same command line mentioned above but with changing the Virtual Directory you want to configure it’s really simple.

Now you had set the basic configurations for CAS.

MBX configurations ( Create a Database )

back to the “Servers” menu on the left and select Database from the taps in the middle

  • Click on the “+” sign to create a new Database for your users

  • Provide a name for your Database
  • Use the Brows Button to select the Mailbox server will be hosting this Database
  • Change the Path of the Database and Log locations if you using another partitions for each ( which you suppose to be doing ignore my photo as it’s a VM on my laptop 🙂 )

  • Click Save
  • done

you can also use PowerShell

  • #>New-MailboxDatabase -Name “Name” -EdbFilePath “path” -Server “FQDN of mailbox Server”
