Howdy,

So Microsoft just announced in a blog article that the new Skype for Business client (Technical preview) is now available to download and test.

so you can register to the insider community and download the new client, which Microsoft brought the familiar Skype client experience that according to their numbers 300 million people used to

so here is what i noticed so far and liked:

Sign-In page of Skype4B is more or less same like the one with Lync except for the round shaped status icons

actually it did not just stop at the status icon, but extended to the contact picture, the contact action menu…well now most of the squared shaped icons became round, let’s leave it to that 🙂

going inside a session you see the familiar Skype user interface. similar colors, rounded icons,

one of my favorite and I’m sure a lot of you would like too, is the smiles or as called (Emoji), Microsoft brought Skype’s emoji to Skype4B client, so now you can express yourself even more 🙂

for making calls the familiar Skype call icon is there and gives you the options to make PSTN or “Skype Call” which is the replacement of “Lync Call” wow I’m stating the obvious here 😛

imageinside a call it is also Skype-like UI with the dark blue colors and round icons in the middle which give you the same ability to escalate the call to video call or present an application

One thing i noticed is when trying to add a presentation or share desktop some of the options are hidden, i liked this better in Lync 2013 where the options had a grid view instead of a list view.

for example you will notice that adding a whiteboard is not listed, that’s why it is under “More”

sfb10

inside a call you can get the dial pad using the “telephone” icon in what I’ll call Action bar

overall, i love the new client, and i believe it will make new users with no experience with this solution learn it quickly and be able to use it faster than with Lync.

so here it is now go download it and give it a try.
