Today I was installing Skype for Business October 2015 CU on my lab and ran into an error, the error itself did not say much about the problem, all it reported was “there were error during the installation process. For details, see the log file at….”

So I opened the log file “Skype_patchinstallerlog” and start searching for the word “error”, and saw in the end of the file that the error came from the server.msp component

Usually you should just go to the installation log file location of Skype for business located under:

But I wanted to see if the server.msp log file will give me any information about the error, which came out to be just a waste of time because it told me to check the log files under the temp location 🙂

“Error 29024. Error 0x80004005 (Unspecified error) occurred while executing command ‘C:Windowssystem32\WindowsPowerShellv1.0powershell.exe’. For more details, check log file ‘C:UsersADMINI~1.LYNAppDataLocalTempLCSSetup_Commands.log'”

Anyway, went to the path of the installation log files, opened the latest one and found the problem, it was related to Install-CsDatabase, apparently I did not have enough “recommended” free space to install the update, according to Microsoft, you need to have at least 32GB of free space before attempting to install the update of the database….

Because it is a virtual machine, I increased the size of the partition to 100GB, and tried the installation again and walaaa, it worked.
