LS User Services – Invalid Incoming HTTPS Certificate

Howdy,

Today I’m going to write about a problem I’ve been seeing in a lot of deployments that include Skype for business or Lync Server on a Windows server 2012 R2 OS at customers
Side Note: this blog article was written using my new Lumia 950XL with OneNote and Display dock connected to it, how cool is that 🙂

My Skype for Business Notes from Microsoft Office365 Summit

Howdy,

i just finished two days Microsoft Office365 Summit in Amsterdam, where i attended all IT-pro sessions about Skype For Business server 2015, yes Microsoft could’ve done better job with the naming.

Manually Lync/Skype for business Enabling of Active Directory contacts

Howdy,

We upgraded recently our Polycom RMX/DMA infrastructure which added the Skype video calling functionality as well as the presence for the DMA rooms in Lync.

According to Polycom official integration guide, they gave two options to enable the presence for the rooms, one automatic using a service account with Domain / Lync administrative privileges (which is not always an option for customers and was not an option also for my company), or there is the other way which is manual method which was not mentioned in the guide.

So I received a request to find a way to enable those contact as a Lync contact without giving this admin privileges to the DMA, if you try to use the Lync control panel you will face a problem when trying to search for the contact object you created and want to use. So following I will show the way to manually enable Active Directory contact objects for Lync 2013, to use it in whatever you need

Understand Lync Databases

Howdy,

I had free time in the holidays that I spent playing around with databases of Lync and took notes of what I found and learned and decided to put them in an article to be used as a…let’s say Lync databases anatomy, I’ll be talking about a simple Lync pool installation and databases included with it.

Next Version of Lync 2013 gets a new name Skype for Business

Howdy,

so as you all might know, Lync was killed by Microsoft and the next coming version in first half of 2015 will be called Skype for Business.

I’m not going to write about that as it has been already covered by others, but I’ll share with you the best article out there that summarize it and tell you what is going on

Simple Understanding of Media Traversal in Lync / Skype for Business

Howdy,

This is another one of my “Simple Understanding” articles to provide an easy way to understand how ICE “Interactive Connectivity Establishment” protocol is used in Lync to find available media path for a Lync audio, video, desktop sharing sessions to overcome the Firewall / NAT obstacle in an infrastructure.

the difference with my article is as always the use of simple words and animated diagram to make it easy to visualize how does it works and understand it which will help you planning for your Lync deployment as well as troubleshooting problem related to media session.

This article was really hard to write as I found myself too many times getting into too much details which lead into deleting or cutting paragraphs in it, and finally after 2 weeks I got this, so let’s start.

Simple understanding of Lync/Skype for Business CMS

Howdy,

I decided to write a “Simple Lync CMS Explanation” article, the difference with this article is that I decided to use easy words not big words as much as I can, to make it easier for Engineers with little SQL experience to understand Lync Database and how does it work, replicate…etc.

So less words and more diagrams to make it understandable, instead of 5 pages of words
